American Consul General Michael Ratney visited the USAID- funded Nablus-Beit Iba-Deir Sharaf road on April 14. During his visit, the Consul General was briefed on the importance of the 16.5 million dollar, 7.7 km road, which will serve as major route between Nablus and the northern governorates of Tulkarem, Jenin, and Qalqilia and will facilitate traffic from smaller towns to Nablus. Consul General Ratney praised the project as one of the most important USAID projects as it allows access to higher education and health facilities and is an important link for commerce between the northern and southern parts of the West Bank and noted it was a clear sign of the strong commitment the U.S. has made to the Palestinian people.
USAID worked closely with the Palestinian Authority Ministry of Public Works and Housing, local municipalities and village councils in the area to plan and develop the project. The project is on schedule to be completed in December 2014.
