On March 11, Deputy Principal Officer of Consulate General in Jerusalem Dorothy Shea joined President of Arab American University in Jenin, Dr. Rami Mahmoud Abu Mowais, in honoring 2015 Women in Science Hall of Fame inductee Dr. Rola Jadallah.
The Department of State created the annual Women in Science Hall of Fame program in 2010 to honor accomplished scientists in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region in disciplines ranging from marine science to nuclear physics. ConGen Jerusalem (CG) nominated Dr. Jadallah for the 2015 Hall of Fame from over 30 applicants, and the MENA Environment, Science, Technology, and Health (ESTH) Hub at the U.S. Embassy in Jordan has included her, along with 11 other regional honorees, in the Hall of Fame.
In her remarks, DPO Shea explained the reasons for choosing Dr. Jadallah for this honor, noting that she “is a great role model for her university, her community, and through this award, for her region and the rest of the world.” Dr. Abu Mowais also expressed Arab American University in Jenin’s pride in Dr. Jadallah’s achievement as it highlights her work, and the support that she is getting from the university to excel on many levels, saying “today we are proud of Dr. Jadallah’s achievements which and we will continue to give high attention to the applied and theoretical scientific research that will contribute supporting the educational process and developing and building the society.”
In addition to Dr. Jadallah’ work as an Assistant Professor in biology, she was chosen to serve as the Assistant to the Vice President for Planning and Development and Director of Projects in AAUJ. Dr. Jadallah was elected Deputy Mayor of the Arrabeh Municipality and is involved in numerous community education projects.
Dr. Jadallah is the first nominee for this distinction from Jenin. She is also the fifth Palestinian women to be nominated to the Science Hall of Fame and the fifth to be selected as a winner
