For millions of Christians and Jews in the Holy Land, this season holds great meaning. Jewish families will gather in homes across Jerusalem to break bread and recall the story of the Exodus and the victory of faith over oppression. Christian communities will gather at the Church of the Holy Sepulcher to commemorate the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
One of the common threads that connect Christians, Jews, and Muslims is that Jerusalem is sacred to all of them. At this time of the year, let’s remember the lessons that scripture teaches us – to love our neighbors as we love ourselves.
For me, the history of Jerusalem is a rich tapestry of stories of hope and vigilance – a belief in a better day to come.
On behalf of my colleagues at the American Consulate General – a mosaic of Jews, Christians, and Muslims – Israelis, Palestinians, and Americans – working together towards peace, I wish you a Chag V’Sameach and a Happy Easter.
